Informtion: The purpose of the European renal association - European dialysis and transplant association Young Fellowship Programme is to support basic and
clinical research in the field of Nephrology in the ERA-EDTA geographical area*.
In addition, the ERA-EDTA Young Fellowship Programme will facilitate scientific
exchange and collaboration among Research Institutions of the ERA-EDTA geographical
area and clinical cooperation among Renal Centres of the same area.
The ERA-EDTA supports two different kinds of Fellowships, long or short term, for the
following:
1) Research Fellowships, which can be long or short term Fellowships, intended for
advanced training through research and/or promoting a research collaboration
between two institutions;
2) Clinical Fellowships* (only short term Fellowships), intended for training in specific
clinical techniques (e.g. renal biopsy and pathology, epidemiological and statistical
skills, renal ultrasound, etc).
3) Special Fellowships (related to ERA-EDTA bodies/committees, as well as the
special “Greek” fellowship).
4) ERA-EDTA Registry Fellowships (fellowships for training renal registry staff - short
term only; ultra short research fellowships). To these fellowships different rules
may apply as outlined later in this document.

Requirements:
- The applicants for both long term and short term Fellowships must have lived and worked
/ studied in a country of the ERA-EDTA geographical area for at least 3 consecutive years
at the time of submitting their application.
- Applications are only considered from candidates whose age will not be over 40 at the
beginning of the Fellowship.
- On completion of the Fellowship, the applicants should return back home and thus must
have the possibility to return to their Home Institutions or to an 'equivalent Institution'.
This letter must be submitted with the application form.
- In each category (short / long) a candidate can be funded only once.
- Applications have to be submitted online through the ERA-EDTA website.
- The fellowship procedure should start without any further significant delay after
reception of approval and not later than six months from the notification of approval by
the ERA-EDTA Young Fellowship Department.
Budget: 23 000 - 60 000 EUR (depends on the country).

Information: Through the ISN Fellowship Programs, Fellows from Low and Middle Income countries get individual and hands-on training in their selected host institutions. They return home with new skills and knowledge in basic and clinical nephrology, dialysis, transplantation, epidemiology. They improve treatment, teach and train others and become future leaders in the developing world. Over the years, this program has also allowed nephrologists from all over the world to train in host centers in their own regions rather than exclusively in North America, Europe or Australasia.

- Applying fellows must identify a Home Mentor (a high-level nephrologist and ISN member).
He or she will help locate a suitable Host Institution and Mentor (also an ISN member) to establish a strong relationship, match interests and develop a training plan.
All graduated fellows agree to submit a report at the end of their fellowship, stating the benefits and outcome of their experience.
They must also try to maintain ties with the Host Institution to set up a Sister Center partnership.
There are two applications rounds every year. You can either submit your application before May 1st or October 1st. We will now only accept online applications.

The American Society of Nephrology Kidney STARS (Students and Residents) program

Information: The goal of The American Society of Nephrology Kidney STARS program is to stimulate interest in nephrology careers by targeting medical students, residents, and graduate students with an interest in nephrology but have not yet committed to applying to a fellowship. Program highlights include a welcome networking breakfast, a Q & A panel with nephrology experts, a guided tour of innovative research abstracts, and a lunch with nephrology leaders and mentors. In addition, all accepted participants are matched into small groups led by a faculty and fellow mentor. It is mandatory that participants attend all events related to the ASN Kidney STARS program in addition to the ASN Annual Meeting.
Speciality: nephrology.
Requirements:
1. Applicant must be a medical student, graduate student, resident, or postdoctoral fellow within the first year of training in good standing.
2. Enrolled in an accredited program, be a graduate student who has passed his/her qualifying exam (or candidacy exam) and enrolled in an accredited university, or a postdoctoral fellow within their first year of training.
3. Able to attend the entire meeting and all program events.
4. Create a free ASN account and log into the application. Complete applicant information, demographics, training level, etc.
5. Complete a 200 word essay.
6. Upload a CV and provide a letter from the applicant's institution verifying current status. The verification letter must be on institutional letterhead and signed by an official or faculty member. For graduate students, the letter must also confirm the student has passed their qualify exam. The CV and verification letter should be combined into one document for upload.
Budget: Program provides $800 in travel support, complimentary registration to attend the ASN Annual Meeting at Kidney Week, in Chicago, and complimentary membership to the society.

European Society for Paediatric Nephrology Training Grants

Information: Training grants will be awarded to young paediatric nephrologists from developing countries within Europe to enable them to spend up to 3 months at one or more established paediatric nephrology centres.

Budget: 1000-3000 Euro depending on the distance from the country of origin and the length of the training period.

Information: ERA-EDTA has decided to give up to 90 travel grants to attend the Madrid Congress on 3-6th of June to the best rated abstracts in the various categories.

Requirements:
- The Presenting Authors must be 40 years old, or younger
- By December 31, 2017.
The Presenting Authors of the two best abstracts of each category, independently of age, will also receive a diploma.
Budget: grant for EUR 500, except for the Presenting Authors of the best abstracts of each category whose grant will be of EUR 1,000, plus free congress membership.

Information: Thanks to a generous grant from the International Society of Geriatric Nephrology and Urology (ISGNU), meant to honour the memory of Prof. Dimitrious G. Oreopoulos, European Renal Association-European Dialysis and Transplant Association will give a travel grant of EUR 1,500 to the best abstract on geriatric nephrology.

Requirements:
- Abstract submitted by a young author (40 years old, or younger, by December 31, 2017).
- Abstracts can be related to all aspects of geriatric nephrology and can be submitted under any of the abstract categories.
